The handset maker has finally put all the rumours regarding its mini iPhone to rest as Apple iPhone SE saw the light of the day.
Apple’s iPhone SE announcement still managed to raise eyebrows and plenty of questions. Is there still a market for a 4-inch iPhone? Is Apple playing it safe with its design? Arguably, the answer to both these questions is yes, but after a week of using the iPhone SE, I can safely say that none of that matters. Regardless of Apple’s reasons for making this thing, the iPhone SE is a lovely smartphone for iOS newcomers and small-handed users alike.
Apple iPhone SE Reviews
The Apple iPhone SE is powered by A9 processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM. The phone packs 16GB of internal storage cannot be expanded. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Apple iPhone SE packs a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 1.2-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The Apple iPhone SE runs iOS 9.3. It measures 123.80 x 58.60 x 7.66 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 113.00 grams. The Apple iPhone SE is a single SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts a Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone include Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope.
Apple iPhone SE Specification
It was being speculated that the new device will be similar looking to iPhone 6s, however, that is not the case. Apple iPhone SE has the same design as that of iPhone 5S, which is being discontinued by the brand to pave way for the iPhone SE. Featuring the same design iPhone SE boasts of bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish with matte-chamfered edges. This handset feels as premium as it gets in one’s hand. Moreover, it is smaller and will appeal to lot of users who were quite appalled on seeing Apple going phablet route. It also features Apple’s signature Touch ID on the front that has been retained from iPhone 5S.
Coming to the front of the new handset, Apple has kept it small and stunning with a 4-inch display. This screen comes with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels that is 326 ppi density. While on paper, the display resolution might not sound like much, however, Apple’s Retina Display technology makes the picture come as alive as on a Quad-HD panel. Moreover, there is an oleophobic coating on the display to make it fingerprint resistant. However, we were disappointed by the lack of 3D touch on the new device.
The Apple iPhone SE would come with Brand’s own iOS 9 pre-installed in it, which goes without saying is the best operating system as of now. This new handset comes with iOS 9.3 out of the box with features like night shift and live photos, which are a delight to use. Moreover, it does not need any getting used to since all icons and settings are neatly laid out on the homescreen itself.
Performance and Battery Life
The performance offered by the new Apple iPhone SE is hooters since it comes with the same specifications that is found in Apple iPhone 6S. It has been equipped with Apple’s latest A9 processor with 64 Bit architecture and M8 Motion coprocessor for an enhanced performance that only an iPhone can deliver. The processor is supported by 2 GB of RAM, which is aplenty considering the smooth integration between hardware and software of the device. This handset comes with the same battery that was found on iPhone 5S viz. 1642 mAh, which the brand is claiming to deliver 30% more backup.
This here is the biggest improvement offered by the handset as it has been equipped with the same 12 Megapixels snapper that is found on iPhone 6S. The camera is also accompanied with dual tone LED flash same as iPhone 5S. It also features advanced options like Five element lens, Hybrid IR filter, Backside illumination sensor and Auto image stabilization. The camera module comes protected by Sapphire crystal lens cover, which protects the lens from random scratching. The camera can also capture 4K Videos, slow motion, time lapse and capture 8 Megapixels still pictures when recording in 4K. However, the front panel of the device has rather disappointing 1.2 Megapixels shooter.
On the connectivity front, this handset comes with improved 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity for enhanced Internet browsing. Besides these, the handset also features Bluetooth (limited connectivity), NFC and GPS.
Apple iPhone SE is definitely a good device for the price conscious market like India, where people desire an iPhone but cannot afford it. However, all that is about to change with iPhone SE as it offers Apple’s top of the line features in a device that costs half as much as its high end smartphone.
