Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Entry Free For All Indians Across All Monuments On These Dates

As part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Union Culture ministry announced free entry for all into Archaeological Survey of India-protected monuments/sites across the country. 

Buildup to 75th year of independence

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a series of events organized by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

The free entry will be in place from August 5-15.

Over 3,500 monuments are protected by the ASI across India.

Campaign underway since 2021

Prime Minister Modi flagged off the ‘Padyatra’ (Freedom March) from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad and inaugurated the curtain raiser activities of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on March 12, 2021.

The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on March 12, 2021, which started a 75-week countdown to the 75th anniversary of independence and will end post a year on August 15, 2023.

He then paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other eminent personalities who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle.

Celebrating culture and heritage

The Union Ministry of Culture said, “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is well placed to set-off India into the Amrit Kaal, on the road to [email protected]”.

The campaign put the limelight on the overarching role of culture and heritage in enabling a nation to remember the past, celebrate the present and aspire for a better future.

As part of the celebrations from 13 to 15 August, a special movement – ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is being organized to put up flags at homes.

Hoist flags, change online profile pics

Modi called upon all citizens to host or display the national flag at their homes and use the tricolor flag as the display picture on their social media accounts between August 2 and August 15.

August 2 is the birth anniversary of Pingli Venkhaiya who designed the National Flag and to commemorate him, Modi urged social media users to change their profile picture to the “tiranga” between August 2 and August 15.
