Swiggy Employees Can Now Work For Other Companies, Officially!

Now online food and grocery delivery platform, Swiggy will allow its employees to take up external projects for free or for “economic consideration” based on internal approvals, as per its statement on August 3.

Swiggy Moonlighting Policy

The food delivery platform Swiggy announced an industry-first moonlighting policy.

Under this policy, employees can take up external projects pro-bono or even for an economic consideration based on internal approvals.

 Interestingly, the new development comes in less than a week after the Bengaluru-based company said that it would allow permanent work-from-anywhere for a majority of its employees.

Further, the head of Swiggy’s human resources, Girish Menon said, “With the Moonlighting Policy, our goal is to encourage employees to pursue their passion without any constraints due to their full-time employment with us. This is yet another step in our journey towards building a world-class ‘people-first’ organization,”.

Adding, “This could encompass activity outside of office hours or on weekends that does not impact their productivity on the full-time job or have a conflict of interest with Swiggy’s business in any way,”.

Moonlighting Policy Applicability

In case the undertaken projects by employees pose a higher risk of conflict of interest or interfere with employees’ duties to Swiggy, then they will be subject to an approval process.

Basically, this new policy will be applicable to all full-time employees of Bundl Technologies, including subsidiaries, affiliates, associate, and group companies.

How Does This Help?

According to Swiggy, this move comes after many discovered new hobbies or activities that provide an additional source of income.

The company said, “Be it volunteering with an NGO, working as a dance instructor, or content creation for social media, Swiggy firmly believes that working on such projects outside of one’s full-time employment can significantly contribute to both professional and personal development of an individual,”.

Prior to this, Swiggy allowed work from anywhere for a bulk of its staff last week. 

According to this development, corporate, central business functions and technology teams will continue to work remotely. 

Swiggy said that these employees will converge once in every quarter at their base location for a week to promote in-person bonding.

So far, it has a workforce of around 5,000, which are working across 487 cities in 27 states and four union territories.
